True or False #12

Children are still developing their cognitive, social & play skills. Left on their own to play with a toy, they may be interested only for a short while. It’s quite common to lose interest because the sense of novelty has worn off (even as adults, this happens to us). But this doesn’t necessarily mean that your child bores easily.

Actually, it is important for us as their caregivers to facilitate their play. We are needed there for so many reasons, e.g.:
– we can show them new or different ways to play with a toy
– we can introduce new ideas or language when playing with the toy
– we become a source of social connection & interactions

When you participate in play time with your child, chances are the toy in question will be appealing for much longer, because your child is more stimulated cognitively and socially. In other words, you are massively increasing the toy’s fun factor!

We don’t have to play with our child all day, but it would be great if we can find pockets of time to play with them!
